Inter Solar System Spacecraft And Extra Solar System Spacecraft

Essentially, there are two basic categories of spacecraft, inter-solar system spacecraft and extra-solar system spacecraft. The difference between the two spacecraft categories is inter-solar system spacecraft travel within our solar system only, and extra-solar system spacecraft travel between our solar system and other stars. This paper does not discuss extra-solar system spacecraft because the technology to travel from our Sun to other stars in our galaxy and back again has not even reached the infancy stage.
There are seven basic characteristics and four basic classes for inter-solar system spacecraft [Ref. 5]. The seven basic characteristics are:

The only regulations needed are those that ensure the delivery of spacecraft that are consistently safe and reliable.
When the California Gold Rush [Ref. 8] started in 1848, every able-bodied White Man in the Eastern, Southern, and Midwestern regions of the United States of America was free to make his way west by any means possible, and try through hard work and luck to strike it rich. Probably, consumer safety was not very important to the U.S. government back then so many White Men died from Indian arrows, diseases, and starvation during their long journey west. Now, 166 years later, the opportunity has arrived again for U.S. citizens to try through hard work and luck to strike it rich by mining large amounts of gold and other precious metals. However, this time the mining will not take place on Earth, but instead will be done over 35 million miles away in the Asteroid Belt [Ref. 9] between Mars and Jupiter. Currently, spacecraft that are powerful enough to travel such great distances can only be built by big companies that are owned by people who are already rich. This puts average people who wish to strike out on their own, so to speak, and search for gold in the Asteroid Belt at a big disadvantage. The only way that average people would be able to search for gold in the Asteroid Belt would be if a large number of robotic spacecraft were available for the cost of an average priced house in the United States today.
The path toward developing a large number of robotic spacecraft has been started by the Copenhagen Sub-orbitals Project [Ref. 10], which is a sub-orbital spacecraft project supported entirely on private donations, corporate sponsors, and part-time engineers and scientists. The Copenhagen Sub-orbitals Project has a 100% peaceful purpose. The project’s main goal is to launch an average-sized person into sub-orbital space using a privately-built small rocket, with a privately-built small spacecraft and a privately-built small payload attached.
