Scientists have warned that the world’s climate has changed a lot, and has affected many living and non-living things Many places that were warmer are now getting colder, and many colder regions are getting much more colder or even warmer causing global warming. Some people do not believe that these are caused by human activities; rather it is political and erroneous intended to cause panic among humans. Unfortunately, society is contributing to the problem by adding heat-trapping gases to the atmosphere causing a change in the Earth’s climate.
Modern society is leading the way in technology; but most importantly, in climate change. Remarkably, I am not surprised because transportation usage has enlarged over the years resulting in an increase of carbon dioxide. Muir (2013) pointed out “Carbon dioxide is one of the most important greenhouse gases (second only to water vapor), and is one of the gases of most concern” (Carbon Dioxide section, para. 1). Some factors that contribute to carbon dioxide emissions from cars and trucks are the amount of fuel used and number of miles traveled. A few years ago, it was not common for the average teenager or twenty-one year old to have a car. However, time has changed and I am seeing more and more cars on the road. In addition, I see more people traveling by car to visit family for holidays at least once a month. This is a serious issue and at this rate, I only expect it to get worse. Currently, motor vehicles are responsible for almost a quarter of annual US emissions of carbon dioxide.
America is trying its hardest, in my opinion, to adapt to this crisis. Global warming is not going to be an overnight success, but there are ways to lend a helping hand and reduce the harm to this nation. For example, motor vehicles need to become more fuel-efficient; the less gasoline burned, the less carbon dioxide is released. Increasing fuel efficiency is a cost-effect method and we are seeing it already with hybrid and electric cars. More people are using bikes, mass transit, and traditional walking to get to their work place. Americans, citizens, and society will be able to adapt to climate change because the technology and benefits that comes with addressing global warming – our economy and public health. Going green and reducing energy costs is the way forward, most of the world is adapting to this phenomenon. Therefore, I see no threat for our beloved Earth when it comes too global warming.
After completing the carbon footprint calculator, my footprint is 4.31 metric tons per year. The average footprint for people in the United States is 20.40...
