Web Site Analysis: Accuracy In Media Web Site

771 words - 3 pages

In this paper, I will discuss and analyze of the web site "Accuracy in Media". The front page of Accuracy in Media (AIM) web site is easy to read and navigate, also user friendly. The navigation is smooth and helps find one's way around the site quickly, but it is not easy to find the true mission of this web site because it is not on the front page.At first sight, I perceived the principal mission of AIM web site is to represent peoples' rights of truthful information. After a second look, I found that the above statement is untrue. The AIM website has this mission statement: "Accuracy in Media is a non-profit, grassroots citizen watchdog of the news media that critiques botched and bungled news stories and sets the record straight on important issues that have received slanted coverage". I found this statement deceives and I will explain why it is not true and how the AIM web site has a biased point of view. The mission of this non-profit organization seems to have a good purpose with an impartial point of view in the fight for citizen's rights. Its main goal is to correct the media when its facts are not right. This web site literally says". By advising them of their responsibility to the public, whom they claim to serve, AIM helps to nudge the members of the news media into greater accountability for their actions." It tries to present an identity of ethical and truth's seeker organization against the "evil" media. In addition, it claims that the media has a biased opinion because. "All the major media surveys for the past 20 years have shown that 80 to 90 percent of the mainstream media consistently vote for Democrats". However, this organization does not explain what methods were use to reach this assumption or how controlled the surveys were. Besides, this statement shows the partiality of this site's opinions and standpoint. The name of the organization "Accuracy in Media," does not accurately describe its real mission. The real hidden mission is to promote a highly conservative program and condemn the Democratic Party. The AIM web site misleads the public and has a hidden agenda because it never states clearly that it is a conservative right wing web site. It only says that AIM organization wants accuracy in news...
