According to the Center for Disease Control and prevention most commonly referred to as, the CDC, Attention Defecate Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the most commonly diagnosed Neurobehavioral disorder of childhood. Children diagnosed with Attention Defecate Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are known to express themselves differently than others, especially in a social situation, where additional stresses can increase their disruptive behavior. Those diagnosed typically have shortened attention spans their inability to focus is not only frustrating to their teachers but themselves as well. Children are quick to live up to expectations weather those expectations are positive or negative a child is just as quick to jump on board with those negative expectations. Making the class room environment a vicious cycle of the teacher dreading the child’s arrival and the child feeling like they constantly have to live up to the “Dennis the Menace” reputation expected of him or her.
Children in general are quite notorious for their short attention spans, the ADHD child’s attention span is a fraction of a child without ADHD, Which becomes another Obstacle for them once they start their education career. Short attention span, in a classroom environment it is not only disruptive but detrimental to the child. How is the child supposed to learn anything if they cannot bring themselves to focus long enough to retain the concepts being taught to them? The other children who witness their off task behavior usually follow in suit with the monkey see, monkey do concept, thus making it difficult for the child to remain in class. They are often isolated from their peers and made to feel even more different than they already do; when isolation doesn’t solve the problem the child is then sent to the principal’s office, missing even more valuable learning time.
On top of the inability to focus there are some who also present excessive energy. Could you imagine waking up in the morning with so much energy you feel like you could literally jump out of your own skin? No need for coffee or extra sleep? That’s what these children experience daily. Where you are sitting right now that sounds great, however remember back to grade school, no one wanted to play with the freak that was literally bouncing off the walls or shaking their leg while sitting in class just to keep themselves from jumping up and down. They are labeled as weird or defiant and instantly judged, instead of understanding they are met with persecution. Instead of the normal hello that most would get these children are greeted with Questions like what do your parents feed you for breakfast? Are their normal. Other children do not want to be around them, whether because of fear of persecution or guilt by association. So not only are these children trying to figure out what is wrong with them, they are usually stuck doing it alone ostracized over something out of their personal control something that is neurological.
Parents of these children are pressured from family and friends and even teachers and school personnel to medicate these children, drugging them so they do not have to try and understand these children and no longer have to worry about them. I...
