Introducing Biomedical Engineering Essay

As time goes by, I realize it has been a year since I have attended SJSU as a biomedical engineering student. However, what exactly is biomedical engineering? According to the definition, Biomedical Engineering is the “application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes.” In other words, biomedical engineering is the study that connects the gap between biology, medicine and engineering, which means it combines the problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences knowledge to analyze and design the solutions for problems in biology and medicine, and for improving healthcare treatment. Biomedical engineers need to perform the following tasks: design instruments, devices, and software; bring together knowledge from many technical sources to develop new procedures; and conduct research needed to solve clinical problems. Also, biomedical engineers work in manufacturing, universities, hospitals, research facilities of companies and educational and medical institutions, and government regulatory agencies, and they usually need to work full time. Some specialty areas within biomedical engineering include bioinstrumentation; biomaterials; biomechanics. As a college student major in biomedical engineering, it’s necessary for me to know more details about my major and my future career by classifying the associations between biomedical engineering and other engineering fields of study.
First of all, the specialty area within biomedical engineering is Biochemical. According to the definition, Biochemical is the study of “chemical process within and relating to living organisms.” Biochemical is also the connection between Biomedical and Chemical engineering, and it is often associated with cellular, molecular, and tissue engineering and bio transport. Biochemical study usually deals with the structures, functions and interactions of biological macromolecules and associated with human life, such as proteins, nucleic acids and so on. In addition, one of the most important classifications of biochemical is the Cellular, Tissue and Genetic Engineering. Cellular, Tissue and Genetic Engineering. Genetic and Tissue Engineering is the study of Biotechnology to recombinant DNA and use gene splicing technology for genetic modification and manipulation (GM) so that it can apply to the direct manipulation of an organism's genes. One of the biggest contributions for this area of study is they create the artificial organs used for patients who need organ transplantation. The cellular, tissue and genetic engineering are involved recent attempts to attack biomedical problems at the microscopic level in the U.S. These areas utilize the anatomy, biochemistry and mechanics of cellular and sub-cellular structures...
