Objective
The job of a cabin crew, or flight attendant, is quite fascinating to many young people
nowadays. From time to time, we hear from some classmates and friends that they are interested in
being a flight attendant, reasons being "it is a cool job" and having the chance to fly to various
countries and travel there. Besides, some of us do know some seniors who are working as a flight
attendant and we know a bit of their work and life from social platforms and from their sharing. For
outsiders like most of us who have not yet graduated from university, the career of flight attendant is
both appealing and mysterious. In light of this, we decided to choose this topic - Investigating the
Career of a Flight Attendant in Cathay Pacific.
The aims of this project were:
1) to investigate the common reasons for joining this career;
2) to look into the interview process and things to be aware of in order to get admitted;
3) to look into the training process;
4) to have more understanding on the work arrangements, work schedules and salary;
5) to gain a general picture of the job tasks on board;
6) to investigate the career development;
7) to look into the usual work-life balance adopted by flight attendants;
8) to get some special experiences of FAs and insider stories;
9) to know more about the rewards and downsides working as a flight attendant, form their point
of view;
10) to know more about some points to consider when leaving the career and switching to other
jobs;
11) to look into some myths and bias of this career; and
12) to offer some advice to interested fresh graduates or applicants, from our interviewees' point

We have interviewed three current flight attendants, one ex-flight attendant, and
another ex-flight attendant with many years of experiences (now the Training Manager of
Cathay Pacific). More background information will be provided in later sections.
