The Health Association of Illinois conveyed that childhood obesity is a condition where excess body fat negatively affects a child's health or wellbeing; as methods to determine body fat directly are difficult, the diagnosis of obesity is often based on BMI (Body mass index).
As families are gather at this very instinct, enjoying their favorite TV-show think of how many commercials have been present that involve McDonalds happy meals, or Wendy’s new dollar menu. However, how often are observable commercials regarding to be healthy get up and play? Obesity is becoming a greater conflict in today’s society. Although, McDonalds have introduced new books as their happy meal toy’s reflecting towards eating habits; the obesity dilemma still continues, therefore family dynamics, media [advertising], TV control and even the new technology approaching today’s generation, is affecting obesity level to rapidly increase.
Obesity is calling more and more at doctor’s door; children are gaining weight more rapidly then previous years. The American Medical Association has officially recognized obesity as a disease, a move that could induce physicians to pay more attention to the condition and impulse more insurers to pay treatments. As A.M.A. begins to finalize this new idea there are still many conflicts that need to be brought into knowledge.
As this nation is considered to be one of the most diverse, customs and traditional activities are begging to impact children’s health, and unaware letting obesity rapidly developed in their own families. Some parents have been raise thinking the healthy does not equal to skinny, and with this theory once a child looks thin parents or grandparents give over large portions on each meal, but that’s the problem the problem is not having parents aware that eating a lot is good, and not eating their cook food does not mean that children are not been thankful. This ties to older generations traditions that were raise in the cycle of belief.
According to Lawrence A. Palkinlas, studies of Latinos or other ethnic groups have found that many mothers of obese children believe their child to be healthy and are unconcerned about their child's weight; although, these same parents are likely to believe that obese children in general should be taken to a nutritionist or physician for help with weight reduction also those parents value child chubbiness as a sign of health. Therefore, parents should be thought more knowledge towards a healthy nutrition such as what are the correct portions.
