Is It Worth It Essay

1805 words - 8 pages

In a domain full of economic desire and prosperity, it is clear that the world thrives of money. Money’s worth has changed acutely in the last century; its importance has now heightened and is a dominant deciding factor in the giant majority of people’s lives. Any decisions made in todays society have to put into place the theory of opportunity cost and cost benefit analysis. The simple philosophy behind opportunity cost is “the cost of an alternative that must be forgone in order to pursue a certain action given limited resources” (Investopedia). Love comes in the way of many decisions and is often a large deciding factor in people’s life’s especially regarding money and finances. The ...view middle of the document...

Affection has no face value and is all about the depiction of the actual people themselves. This amount is exceptionally high and can be used to further one’s lifestyle as well as help them concentrate on their individual careers.

In a recent study conducted by the Health Service (in the UK) found that on average, males reported to have 9.3 sexual partners in their lifetime, while woman only had 4.7 sexual partners. Therefore, from a male’s perspective, the likelihood is that the ninth sexual partner is the last companion and she is the one he is probably going to get married to. The male would have had to go through 8 females and would have had to pay for dates, dinners and movies for each of these 8 women, which is in fact excessively costly and very inefficient.

Love has no definition, it has no precise description or explanation, and many people know what it stands for and feel different types of love but do not know how to explain it. This is mainly due to the fact that everyone experiences a diverse kind of love; no two couples will experience the same form of love. The definition of love is not defined, but the cost of love is. A study performed by BrainJuicer found that hearing and truly acknowledging the words ‘I love you’ is equivalent to 163,424 pounds. The study took place in the UK where they polled 1000 people on what happiness means to them through significant life events and came up with the figure. If it takes about 160 thousand pounds for only three words to be said, add that to the other expenses of love and marriage and kids. It begs the question, is it worth all the money.

Once a couple has completely fallen in love with each other and they are adamant that they belong to one another they tend to commit and get married. Marriage within itself is an expensive venture and recently the cost has only increased. This is mainly due to an increase of inflation in the last couple of decades; according to femalefirst a wedding in 1950 was a mere £50 it has become 500 times more expensive today. On average couples spend around $25,500 on their weddings this includes the honeymoon, the ring cost and the actual ceremony cost. This is a huge price to pay for a weekend and is a colossal misuse of money, especially since the divorce rate is high in the U.S, where 3.6 per every 1000 people are divorced.

Many people fall in love under false pretences; they fall in love due to reasons not involving affection and more about attraction and wealth. Love and Money, an article by Starlee Kine outlines the modern reality of love and how recently the rich guy mystique attracts more and more woman. Women who see a rich guy may not love him, nor he love them, yet they will get married and live out their lives. She is attracted to his money and he is attracted to her beauty. This is a mutual relationship between the two and from day one the two understand why they are with each other. This way the couple don’t waste time and money in dating...
