Is One Crime Holier Than Another?

What would you consider a holy crime to be? Should any crime be justified? A reader should have their answer in mind when analyzing the two crimes of Brutus, in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, and Antigone, in Antigone by Sophocles. These two crimes are different in many ways but they both had good intentions behind their actions. As the reader, there will be a personal opinion formed about which crime is holier. Antigone is truly justified in her actions and her crime is holier than Brutus’s, even though he had good intentions.

She also has two brothers named Eteocles and Polyneices. The two brothers went to war with each other which resulted in them both dying. A natural reaction to someone dying would be a burial for the body to lay in peace, right? Creon favored Eteocles over Polyneices so he thought that only Eteocles deserved a proper burial and for Polyneices to, “lie on the plain, unburied; and the birds and the scavenging dogs can do with him whatever they like.” (Sophocles. 1.1.43-45). Creon’s law of, “Polyneices, I say, is to have no burial: no man is to touch him or say the least prayer for him” (Sophocles. 1.1.42-43) went against the God’s law that everyone deserves a burial to keep the body at rest after death. Creon’s law took a negative impact on Antigone because she believed that her brother deserved as equally proper of a burial as Eteocles did. Antigone decides to break Creon’s law and bury her brother. She was caught by the guards and Creon punishes for burying her brother. She was sent to a vault with no necessities for a basic human’s needs, to die.
In many ways, Antigone’s crime can be viewed as just. In agreement with Antigone’s statement to Creon of, “I have done no wrong, I have not sinned before God.” (Sophocles. 1.4.66-67). The only law she broke was Creon’s law which...
