Jesus of Nazareth
The movie Jesus of Nazareth brings to life the life and story of Jesus Christ. The movie helped portray Jesus as something were not used to and showed the story of his life on a more relatable level. The miracles described in the bible are hard to imagine actually happening but the movie was able to materialize these things happening. It enables us to imagine what it would be like if Jesus were here today. The movie also incorporated many characters other minor characters that added depth to the film.
The separation of type of people based on factions was very deliberate in this movie. There were many different points in the movie were it shows the divide between the factions. Such as the scene where John the Baptist, baptized Jesus and the pharisees came to watch. The movie stays true to the biblical version of the Pharisees because Joseph of Arimethia was shown as one. Joseph fit the description of a Pharisee. He was an esteemed member of the Jewish faith and came in contact with all the citizens when he was watching Jesus preach. The Pharisees do not like that Jesus was healing on the sabbath day because they live by the law. John the Baptist is an example of one from the Essene faction. John the Baptist is an example of an Essene because he does ritual cleansing; baptism, and lived in purity. The portrayal of the Essenes was accurate for the most part, because they lived away from the rest of civilization and any cities or resources. The Essenes lived apart, in the desert to live a life filled with prayer and devotion to god. The Sanhedrin members in the movie were examples of those in the Saducee faction as well as the royalty and rich members of society. The Zealots portrayed in the movie have the same overbearing zeal as they do in the bible. A zealot follower of Jesus approached him with plans to kill King Hared. This plan is the sort of extremes that Zealots channel their faith into.
The four different types of miracles that were described in the Bible are also portrayed in the film. Physical miracles are shown well, like when the crippled man was lowered through the roof to the feet of Jesus, he healed him. Jesus told him to stand up and he was able to through the power of God. The resurrection of Lazarus was shown as an resurrection miracle. When word got to Jesus that Lazarus was dying, it was brought to him by believers of God. By the time Jesus got there Lazarus had been dead four whole days and no one believes that Jesus can fix his death at this point. Accurate to the bible, the sister of Lazarus tells Jesus that if he had been present that her brother would not have died. Jesus tells Lazarus to rise and come forward, which he does. He says that...
