Jesus and Mohammed both set the foundation for two similar and yet very different religions. Jesus was the founder of Christianity; derived from Jesus Christ, based on the Bible as sacred scripture, and professed be Eastern, Roman Catholic, and Protestant bodies. Mohammed was the founder of Islam; a monotheistic religion characterized by the acceptance of the doctrine of submission to God and to Muhammad as the chief and last prophet of God. In this paper I will compare the lives of Jesus and Mohammed historically, explore what impact the death of each person had on his respective religion, describe the ways each have been worshipped, and explain how each message is being carried out in the world today.Both Jesus and Mohammed played prominent roles to their respective religions. In reality, Christianity and Islam are two of the most influential religions to date. Even though both religions initiated in Islam, there are numerous differences between the two.Jesus means "God Saves" and was said to be the son of God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit. His mother, Mary, was a virgin and was married to a man named Joseph from Bethlehem. The year he was born is believed to have been 4 B.C., while there are no historical records to prove this fact. The birth took place in a stable after Mary and Joseph endured a long journey and needed a place to sleep (Fisher, 2005). The birth of Jesus brought various people to Bethlehem to worship him; even shepherds and men known as the wise men came to pay their respects.Not too much is known about the childhood of Jesus except that he grew up in Nazareth and lived a pretty normal life. The Bible tells a story of the time when Jesus was twelve years old and he traveled to Jerusalem for Passover with his parents, Mary and Joseph. Jesus venturedJesus and Mohammed 3off and was later found at a temple discussing the word of God with the teachers and priests he met there. This experience made it rather clear that he had a great understanding and knowledge for religion from an early age.Jesus began his own ministry when he was approximately thirty years old. Once John the Baptist baptized Jesus, his disciples than recognized him as Christ and started to become his followers. Jesus and his followers began to spread the word of Christianity across the land. He performed miracles for the less fortunate; turned water into wine, cured a blind man, helped the cripple walk again, gave water to the thirsty, and fed the poor. His sole purpose in life was to spread the word of God and to teach people how they should live their life. Learning to love God as well as each other was important. Although, living life as a Christian held very high standards and people were often discouraged by that; Jesus secured those in doubt to put faith into God and ask for his forgiveness when needed.As time went on, Jesus developed the gift to see into the future.
