"Jesus Christ Superstar" A Complete Statistical Assesment

1652 words - 7 pages

In the opening scene Judas sings the lyrics "My mind is clearer now At last All too well I can see Where we all Soon will be If you strip away The myth From the man You will see Where we all Soon will be" this shows a connection of Jesus' humanity. By doing this, the movie can achieve a deeper connection of reality with the audience because they are more capable of putting themselves in his position. He goes on with "Listen Jesus, do you care for your race?Don't you see we must keep in our place? We are occupied Have you forgotten how put down we are? I am frightened by the crowd for we are getting much too loud and they'll crush us if we go too far If we go too far" which shows that Judas is beginning to doubt Jesus' ability to control his followers; it also alludes to the story line to come.During the What's The Buzz scene, Jesus says, "Why should you want to know? Don't you mind about the future? Don't you try to think ahead? Save tomorrow for tomorrow; Think about today instead." this statement shows that Jesus is teaching them to live out there days to the fullest, because they might not be able to the next day. Afterwards we see the disciples in the cave with Jesus. At this, Mary Magdalene starts a ballad "Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to Prob-lems that upset you, oh. Don't you know everything is all right, yes, everything is fine, and we want you to sleep well tonight? Let the world turn without you tonight. If we try, we'll get by, so forget all about us tonight." This shows that the disciples want to comfort Jesus because they care about him, it also shows that Mary Magdalene is very close to Jesus.Jesus begins traveling with his followers. When the high priests saw this, they became worried that his followers would grow and overthrow the church. Fear lead to them deciding that they would have to kill him. At this choice, the scene goes to Pilate where he had a dream about Jesus being hated by many people, and his death being Pilate's burden. This scene lead back to Jesus where he came upon a temple, but something wasn't right. He found items being sold in the temple, so he knocked over the merchandise. This action was a message that the Lord's Temple was meant for devotion to the Lord and not your wants and desires, just pure prayer and reverence. At this time, Mary Madeline sings a soliloquy to herself about her relationship with Jesus, "I don't see why he moves me. He's a man. He's just a man, and I've had so many men before, in very many ways, He's just one more." This shows that she deeply cares for him and is very devout to his teachings. After this Judas goes to Caiaphas and sells out Jesus for money. He regrets it and is reluctant but still goes through with it; this alludes to what he says at the last supper. At The last supper, Jesus says "The end... Is just a little harder when brought about by friends. For all you care, this wine could be my blood. For all you care, this bread could be my body. The end! This is my...
