Journal Two Essay

1278 words - 6 pages

The gospel of Mark is a short recollection of Jesus life, it has many details but is missing pieces or additions to his life. The Gospel of mark was said to have lost pieces, and also the first account of Jesus life. Although it is not as detailed in some areas as it is in others, it tells many accounts of Jesus life on earth and what kind of a person he was, the life he lived, his struggles and his ending.
Mark gets right to the point when telling the story of the life of Jesus; he does not talk about the birth, Jesus ancestry, nor his mother, or father. Mark recognizes Jesus as a person, as a messiah, a son of God, he shows that he is the son of God. Mark 1:11 says, “The beginning of ...view middle of the document...

Not only does he speak of his struggles he even predicts that these same leaders will kill him, predicting his own death. Mark 11:18, “The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching”(NIV, p 1679). They felt threatened by him they were the leaders of this time and all of a sudden here this man was and people were following him, coming in crowds listening to his message watching his miracles, praising his speeches and these leaders did not like that, they felt as though they were losing their power over the people so they wanted him gone.
Marks main theme in his Gospel are the way he portrayed Jesus to be a service man, he shows what Jesus did in his actions, his service to the people and not so much the things he said but the life he lived. He skips the birth of Jesus and speaks almost immediately of his ministry. Jesus gave his entire life to service people, which is amazing. Mark 10:44-45
“...and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (NIV, p 1677). Mark also shows Jesus to live a secretive life as you read the gospel of mark many times it shows secretive behavior, Jesus teaches his disciples in secret, as he heals people he asks these people to not say anything about these healings, when his identity is attempted to be revealed he commands that it stops. This shows Jesus is humble, he does not want an award for all the things he has done, he does not need to be recognized by anyone other than God himself for his doings, he doesn’t need attention to be brought to him he is just doing the things he is asked by God to do. “Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret”( NIV, Mark 7:24, p1668).
Although Jesus life was described in Mark it does not speak much of his death or his resurrection. His crucifixion and resurrection are very short and the descriptiveness of these events are not very detailed. Mark focuses more on the life Jesus lived and the fact he was at peace...
