A major problem in the United States is its major increase in crimes committed by juveniles. Directing the youth away from crime and appropriately dealing with those who commit crimes is of increasing importance and trends indicate that juvenile crime will continue to increase if deterrent programs aren't established. Some of the reasons they are able to commit these crimes is lack of supervision from parents, lack of guidance from authority figures, and nobody to look up to as a role model. In my opinion there are many things that can be done to deter our youth from committing crimes. The first thing that comes to mind is to take care of the problem from the source, the family ...view middle of the document...
A great program created to help out parents is the Boys and Girls Club. This program keeps children off the streets and out of trouble. This way the children are busy doing productive things instead of being deviant. Another thing that can help a child from becoming a delinquent is giving them an authority figure or role model to look up to and talk to. A child should have a numerous amount of people to admirer and ask for advice. Parents, teachers, coaches, and counselors should all be there to help a child when they need guidance. The government could help prevent the delinquency of juveniles by making after school programs mandatory to first time offenders. When a child is charged with a minor misdemeanor crime by the courts then the judge should make the juvenile participate in programs such as the Boys and Girls Club or Big Brother/ Big Sister for a certain amount of time. The government addresses the issue of juvenile delinquency all of the time but they need to start taking real action in fixing it.The youth of our nation is being destroyed by problems that the public can solve. These problems that corrupt our children can be fixed by putting forth extra effort to keep children off of the streets. By doing this we will deter children of committing crimes and get them involved in activities that will educate them. With programs and organizations that keep children and teens off the streets it makes it easier for juveniles to stay out of trouble. It all starts with the youth and if the public doesn't concentrate more on them, then society will keep producing more criminals.
