Although juvenile delinquent behavior is reported to be at an all time low there is some concern for the continuous effort that is needed for case management in order to keep our youth off the streets and out of juvenile detention facilities (Paulson, 2013).
Over the past 30 years the reports of lower numbers in juvenile crime being committed there is still needs to be a more meaningful way to maintain commitment, even with some changes in the way delinquents are handled we should still press for more effort to place deterrence towards juveniles while seeking bigger commitments from these professional case managers that handle juvenile delinquency. Those who choose to work in juvenile case management must have the proper knowledge that is required to become a highly skilled social worker that is experienced in not only working with a family in their environment but also must have knowledge in juvenile justice, education awareness of personal characteristics to keep these kids safe and off the streets where they can be in dangers way at any moment.
According to the National Institute of Research for Juvenile Justice Action Newsletter (1999), a old-fashioned approach to case management might consist of a mental or social health worker who must coordinate social, mental health, medical and other services that might be needed by their client (Healey). With all of the inmates that were released from prison many mental health workers discovered new ways to resourcefulness connect social services when they are monitoring inmates that have been recently released and know what agency are available to decide the proper program for their client within the criminal justice system. Together with these programs a case manager can begin to find the difference in programing for adult and juvenile clients with each service having different levels of treatment in certain pans to help the client with the issues they are having and trying to defeat with the help ranging from parole monitoring, alcohol substance abuse, an all other services that may be found to be helpful for a client in need. The program options for juvenile offenders are built on different intentions in order to better provide the juvenile with the best rehabilitation services to make them want to become a better person and also a better member out in society once they complete the rehabilitation programs they are placed in by their case manager. The main focus on help the juvenile offenders is two service examples and they are strength based and assertive in case management. “The strength-based model provides youth with service based off what the program designate as their “strength” (Roberts, 2005).
The relationship between the client and their caseworker must be built upon different levels of help with many self-assessments psychological done on the juvenile client because this method is labeled as the most affective way in helping the juvenile discover their inner strengths with the...
