Throughout all of human history it is noted that most heroes are male, be it fictitious or in real life. Webster define a “hero” as “a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble quality but thats mean that women can’t be heroes too. Katniss Everdeen at “The Hunger Games” exhibits all the characteristics of a real “hero”. Her appearance fools foes as a weak and easy target to kill. Katniss’ has many abilities but her mind is her greatest power. She exemplifies that women can be heroes and one don’t need to be perfect to be a hero. Katniss Everdeen is our greatest hero of our generation.
In appearance, she may look like just any ordinary, innocent teenage girl in District 12. She normally wears her hair in a long braid down her back. Katniss is thin and not very tall but quite strong for her size from hunting to feed her family in the woods outside District 12 with Gale, a childhood friend. She has straight black hair, olive skin and grey eyes, which are typical characteristics of the seam; the poorest area of District 12. Characteristics that have helped her deceive her foes. It doesn’t matter what she wears she is a dauntless teenaged girl.
Katniss doesn’t possess any special powers but she is a highly skilled archer, hunter and trapper, she has broad knowledge of edible, medicinal and poisonous plants at District 12. She is a skilled tree climber, which benefited her in hunting and the games. Katniss has the ability to run fast and quickly shoot her bow and arrow at foes. In Catching Fire, she is determined to keep Peeta alive during the 75th Quarter Quell. Out of all of Katniss’ abilities, her mind is her greatest weapon. She knows how to play the game not just how to win in the arena. It was a huge risk to threaten the Capitol to eat the poison berries with Peeta. Using her knowledge, not only is she saving herself but Peeta too! Katniss protects her love ones even if it means she has to die.
