Formål: Formålet med de to forsøg (cykeltest og pendulløbetest) var at undersøge en persons kondition og derefter beregne vedkommendes kondital.Teori: Kondition defineres som kroppens evne til at optage luftens ilt og føre den ud i kroppen (de røde muskelfibre) hvor den indgår i den aerobe kemiske proces som tilføre vores krop energi. Processen kaldes respiration (kan ses herunder) og foregår i de enkelte cellers mitokondriger. Jo mere veltrænet jo flere mitokondriger.Glukose + Ilt → CO2 + Vand + ATPDet er i midlertidigt ikke sandt hvis man kalder det ovenstående reaktionsskema for fuldendt, da kroppens udnyttelsesevne kun er på 23% og ikke 100% som det ses i reaktionsskemaet. Dvs. at når man optager 100 l ilt bliver kun de 23 l lavet om til arbejde, resten går til varme.Denne proces er dog forholdsvis langsom, så når man ikke tilføre musklerne alt den energi de skal bruge (f.eks. når man sprinter) ved respiration, så sker der følgende processer i de hvide muskelfibre:1.Først opbruges ATP lagre.2.Så sker følgende to processer under anaeropt arbejde:Creatinphosfat + ADP + P → ATP + Creatin3.Til sidst sker følgende gæring:Glukose + ADP + P → Mælkesyre + ATPFørst efter gæringsprocessen har skabt så store mængder mælkesyre i kroppen at det bliver for smertefuldt vil man blive tvunget af sin krop til at stoppe de fysiske belastninger.Kondition afhænger af mange ting, men nogle af de vigtigste er lungernes evne til at optage ilt, samt hjertets evne til at pumpe ilten rundt i kroppen. Hos unge utrænede mænd er lungerne ca. i stand til at trække 6 liter atmosfærisk luft ned i lungerne per minut i hvile og under maksimalt arbejde 130-140 liter per minut. En veltrænet mand kan der imod trække næsten 200 liter ned i lungerne per minut. Atmosfærisk luft er i midlertidigt ikke kun ilt som det ses på cirkeldiagrammet til højre. Dette betyder at vi kun optager 1 liter ilt ud af hver 20 liter atmosfærisk luft vi indånder. Dette forhold forringes dog drastisk når vi anstrenger os. Dette forklares let når man ser på den nedenstående ligning for ens lungeventilation og så tænker på hvor små åndedræt man tager når man anstrenger sig kraftigt.Det der er sværest at gøre noget ved når man forsøger at forbedre sin kondition er hjertet. Hjertets evne rundt i kroppen afhænger af dets minut volume, som er defineret her under:Minut Volume = slag/minut * slagvolumenHvis man er i god kondition vil ens hjerte blive større og derved have en større slag volume.
