Roberto Clemente era una persona muy famosa porque era un buen jugador de béisbol. Roberto era un héroe de béisbol durante las décadas de los sesenta y setenta. Roberto hizo muchas cosas estupendas: bateó tres-mil veces, ganó dos Series Mundiales, y participó en 12 juegos All-Stars. (Wagenheim, 1) Roberto era el primer latino americano en el Salón de Fama de béisbol sin tener que esperar los 5 años para entrar. Pero muchas personas no saben que Roberto era un gran humanitario.Roberto Clemente nació en Carolina, Puerto Rico el 18 de agosto del 1934. Roberto era el más joven de siete niños. Sus padres trabajaban en una plantación y era muy pobre. Roberto trabajó entregando leche para las familias que trabajaban en las plantaciones. Todo el tiempo Roberto estaba jugando al beísbol en las calles de Puerto Rico. Cuando tenía 18 años un reclutador de béisbol vio a Roberto jugar y le ofreció un contrato para jugar con los Crabbers de Santurce en la liga de béisbol profesional de Puerto Rico. Él firmó con el equipo por 40 dólares mensuales y un sobrepaga de 500 dólares.Roberto jugó por menos tiempo cuando los Brooklyn Dodgers vio a Roberto y en 1954 firmó con este equipo por 10 mil dólares. Roberto jugó para un equipo de la liga menor asociado con los Dodgers en Montreal. Allí estaba muy solo porque nadie podía hablar español hasta que encontraron a Joe Black, un hispanohablante. Roberto y Joe eran mejores amigos pero en 1955 los Piratas de Pittsburgh asidó a Roberto por 4 mil dólares por año y estaba en la Liga Mayor.
