Future Tech's New Company President Essay

1400 words - 6 pages

The search for Future Tech’s new company president is an important task. As our name implies, we are focused on the future. We have been successful for the past 25 years, but it is now time to usher in a new way of thinking. We not only want to focus on our productivity and profit, but also on the well-being of our employees. Our organization has a goal to change the future of the way that organizations function. Great importance is put on the people of the organization and how we can work together to make our business, as well as our lives, better through our interactions. The new president must represent our company in a way that honors the values and goals that are the mission of the corporation, and have a passion for our ‘back to nature’ vision. In order to become our most successful, our organization needs a president that leads through passion, compassion, and a willingness to think outside the box of what, in the past, has been the definition of leadership.
A good leader understands the work that needs to be done while also being able to relate to the people who help them do the job (Northouse, 2012). Our organization needs a leader that can recognize and adapt to the needs of the followers (Northouse, p.76). He or she must be able to help followers achieve their goals and make sure that tasks are getting done in a timely manner. The job will entail communicating with people from diverse cultures which requires an open and empathic leader. Our new leader needs traits that are not commonly thought of in a leadership context, but are important to the vision of Future Tech. We desire a leader to possess humility, vulnerability, inclusiveness, generosity, balance, patience, and empathy. These qualities are traditionally identified with women, but according to Buchanan, these are the traits that produce results for leaders of both genders (Buchanan, 2013). Modern ways of thinking about leadership involve nurturing others and being in touch with one’s own emotional well-being. In the past there has been an “Oz model of leadership – all knowing, all powerful, which doesn’t play anymore” (Buchanan, 2013). Our organizations wants to incorporate an “age of nurture”, which is practiced by Whole Food’s John Mackey, and Zappos’s Tony Hsieh (Buchanan, 2013).
One of the main responsibilities of the president will be to design the organizational structure and help hire the best people to do the tasks to keep the company running. The president will need to be able to create long-term strategies for the company, and be in charge of financial goal setting. The president monitors the business’s finances and makes decisions regarding the company’s spending, debt, investment strategies, and profits. He or she must have extensive knowledge at building management teams, setting financial strategies, and monitoring performance of departments.
The leadership style that is desired for this job is a style that incorporates many different styles...
