This literature review describes the three theory of leadership style, which includes the Authoritarian leadership, Charismatic leadership and Democratic leadership, the article analyzes in detail the characteristics of three kinds of leadership style, advantages and disadvantages, and compare three theories to find out the difference.
In the authoritarian leadership enterprise, all power in the hands of leader, the leader to participate company's operation and management of daily affairs, and all decisions made by themselves, lack of communication with employees, also will not easily accept the opinion of the subordinates. In daily work, the staff is very difficult to express their opinion and ideas; they are following the ideas from the leader to complete work. In such an enterprise, employees difficult to find their goals, because they find it difficult to know the all process of the project and the final goal gradually will lack own ideas. Employees' job evaluation completely from leadership evaluation of the individual, cause employees’ ability are hard to emerge, as a result, employees will lose the motivation of the work. Lack of communication with employees can make the employees can't well understand the intention of the leader; employees will blind obedience on account of the authority of the leadership, make the low efficiency of work. In such enterprise leadership will be very tired, because need to make all the decisions and management, and be responsible for all the results, and need to stay in the company every day, because all the ideas in his mind, no one know his thoughts and events, the purpose of his departure will cause worker lose the target. Leader will due to of their inadequate and lack of opinions from others and ignore some factors to make the wrong decision, bring the losses to company. The advantage is at some critical moment, the leader can make decisions quickly.
Charismatic leadership usually have a strong ability, act as ‘role model’ in the enterprise, can be summarized as ‘Vision & articulation, Environmental sensitivity, sensitivity to followers needs, Personal risk and Unconventional behaviors’ Conger & Kanungo (1998).
