Leadership In Education: Why Is It Important?

2535 words - 11 pages

Without leadership, the simplest of things can be frustrating. John C. Maxwell, author of 21 Irrefutable Law of Leadership, once said, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” Leadership is everywhere. Leadership can start from a plethora of places. From school, clubs, home, church. We can be leaders in everything we do. Leadership is not following the in-crowd. In education, leadership can sometimes be lacking. It is the principals, teachers, or sometimes the students themselves. Anyone can learn to be leaders. It is not going to be easy, but once we, as leaders, or teachers, get to where we are going, it is the most amazing thing ever. There are different laws of leadership to learn, but we are not going to name any of the laws. We are just going to learn the main ideas in all twenty-one laws. Each law can stand alone. If you apply the laws then people will follow you. If you do not apply the laws you will not be able to lead anyone. Once the laws are learned, practice them and apply the laws to your live as a teacher. For starts, we have to get a game plan.
A story of two brothers’ name Dick and Maurice wanted to live the American Dream. They started a restaurant business that is now a global franchise, but they did not make it that way. They knew how to run a business, but did not know to improve it. So the restaurant started to go under. So the brothers decided to sell the business to a guy name Ray. Once Ray started to make changes as the years went by, the business began to grow. Now McDonald’s is known all around the world. Everywhere you turn, you see a McDonald’s. A person’s leadership ability will determine a person’s effectives. “The higher you want to climb, the more you need leadership. The greater the impact you want to make, the greater your influence needs to be.” (Maxwell, 5) An effective person is going to successes in running a business. Some schools probably have a game plan, but have people interfered with their vision. Most schools want to make the parents happy. So the schools do what the parents want to do, but what the parents want to do may not be best for the students as a whole. If most schools get the parents out of the picture when it comes to educating the students and let the schools do their jobs. Now leaders have to learn that not every change is going to happen in one day. Leaders have to plan and get it process. Benjamin Disraeli said, “The secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his time when it comes.” First of all, “if teachers understand leadership is influence and that in the course of each day most individuals usually try to influence at least four other people, their desire might have been sparked to learn more about the subject.” (Maxwell, 27)
Leadership develops over a long period of time, not in one day. For example, Theodore Roosevelt became the president of the US, winner of a Noble Peace Prize, and created a new world power. How did he do all these...
