Leadership Philosophy Paper

1896 words - 8 pages

In my life, my own definition of leadership is someone who looses their selfishness and egoistic pride to be an example to others. Someone who stands for something so strong that there zealous attitude infects other people. Someone who isn’t easily swayed and stands firm on what they believe. Leadership is not about yourself, but others. Some of the greatest leaders that have inspired me in my life have included my mother, my father and my youth pastor. Everyday I watch my mother be a leader to my brother and me. She is dependable, honest, trustworthy, courageous and bold. She has set the ultimate example of what it means to a selfless leader. My father is the leader of our house. Not only is he a leader to my mother and us children, yet he is a leader in his workplace. He is a strong willed, stern, ambitious leader that never takes no for an answer. In his family he leads the house with a sense of honor and shows it in his actions. In the workplace he never fails his co-workers and the people under him. He remains loyal and true in everything he does. My youth pastor is such an inspiring man of God. He never failed to completely tear your world apart with his convicting messages on Sunday mornings. He is the epitome of what it means to loose your self to the world and only focusing on leading people to one true God. These people in my life have set up amazing examples on what it means to be a leader. My main inspirations in life have shaped my past, who I am and who I will become later in life, being the tools that are molding my life philosophy.
I think one of my biggest talents in life is the ability to communicate clearly with others. I am comfortable with being in front of crowds and enjoy talking to new people. After taking the strengths test I found out that my top strengths were innovations, optimism, salesmanship, curiosity, faith and communication. These strengths do describe me as a person and what I am good at. According the test my weaknesses are integrity, purpose, ambition, balance, and resourcefulness. The way I can improve in integrity is to be more genuine with people. I think I have a lot of integrity, but I can always improve. Another weakness I need to improve on is resourcefulness, which I agree with. I am not usually someone that knows everything. I can improve this by becoming more aware of things I need to know and do. Purpose and ambition are also areas I need improvement in. I get easy distracted from the big purpose and lack ambition. When you are a leader you need to know what is important to you and what you stand on. When you are a leader you need to know what your values and beliefs are before you go and try to sculpt someone else’s values and beliefs. My top values are faith, family, and relationships. These things are what I am about and help guide my decisions in life.
