Legalization of drugs
There are many arguments for and against drug use. Different countries vary on their restrictions of recreational drugs. As my personal opinion, I am for the legalization of drugs. In this essay I intend to discuss positive and negative factors regarding the topic.
My first argument against the legalization of drugs is the increasing number of drug users associated with this legalization. Especially young and insecure people might be betrayed into consuming drugs. People who are law-abiding could be misled into taking drugs since drug consuming is no longer a crime. The legalization also could beguile people into taking drugs who think of it as a ...view middle of the document...
The second issue when discussing the topic is the increasing interest for users to consume substances which are banned by the state. This rebelling against the law gives some drug users a sense of excitement by doing something illegal. Therefore, an introduction to the legalization of drugs could eliminate this desire to rebel against the state, thus removing the thrill of danger. Another positive effect of legalizing drugs could be an influx of tourism. Amsterdam, for example, relys heavily on its marijuana production to attract the vast majority of its tourists. Therefore, drugs can benefit the tourism and subsequently the economy of a country. The fourth argument for the legalization of drugs is the fact that a large percentage of drugs bought on the streets contain various substances which are unknown to the consumer and in many cases very dangerous. In the course of the legalization of drugs new regulations might be introduced which could assure a proper production and labeling of the drugs. This would eliminate the risk of drugs containing foreign substances such as rat poison.
To conclude, there are various arguments for and against the legalization of drugs. Prohibited drugs fund organized crime, affecting nearly all aspects of crime. Illegal drugs also lead to a constant interest in trying new things and going against the law. Legalizing drugs can help to increase tourism and provide a means of income. In addition to that, it prevents the purification of drugs bought on the streets. Lastly, it it important to say that in case of a legalization proper educational advertising and regulations would have to be assured.
