“Drugs are a bet with your mind”. This was quote was claimed by the wise man, Jim Morrison who had experienced drugs beforehand and had foreseen their consequences. The issue of the legalization of drugs has been a topic of interest and is one of the most controversial topics of all time. The topic at hand has raised various arguments, which include the “War on Drugs”. One argument claims that all drugs should be legalized, as they aid in medical and recreational uses. Another argument believes that, the legalization will do more harm than good, and have negative impacts on the human body.

One can never truly prohibit something, for even by outlawing drugs, they will be sold illegally. However, by legalizing drugs, the black market will be regulated. By legalizing drugs, criminal activity will be reduced, as dealers will not be an issue anymore. The illegal black market makes 8% of all world trade. Hence, when regulating, the number will begin to decrease and by regulating the black market, it will reduce the amount of violence between dealers and gang members. In addition to that, the legalization of drugs will benefit the government economically.
Death, death is a mine side effect of the diverse collection of drugs wanting to be legalized. Should we legalize something that is harming one to such an extent? Despite the various positive impacts of legalizing drugs, it comes with harmful and dangerous impacts as well. Many of the drugs today, if used on a regular basis, become addictive. As for a drug such as sleep-inducing pills, they cause intoxication, physical and psychological dependence, whereas the drug downer causes depression and overdose. Further serious effects of the drug downers are coma, seizures and even death. Is it truly worth legalizing drugs?
Kurt Cobain once said, “Drugs are a waste of time. They destroy your memory and your self-respect and everything that goes along with your self-esteem”. This is absolutely correct. The drug stimulant increases blood pressure and can cause severe psychosis like schizophrenia. Cocaine causes psychological and physical dependence along with personal disturbance and sleep loss. The drug speed strains the heart, causes anxiety and can lead to death. Ecstasy allows the heart to beat feaster and dilates pupils and the drug hallucinogen causes severe mood swings, delusions and schizophrenia. A drug such as cannabis damages the lungs and causes mental changes. All these negative impacts come from drugs wanting to be legalized.
