Marijuana actually has health benefits that most people overlook. Marijuana is not a dangerous drug and should be legalized because it does not cause harm to anyone and by legalizing marijuana the government will take control of marijuana distribution and safety it can benefit a lot of people in many ways. If the government controls the market for marijuana people would no longer be in danger of trying to acquire it illegally and there would be tax for selling marijuana which will benefit both the government and society. By legalizing marijuana the government can make laws about its use.

Legalizing marijuana is a first step into creating a new market, which would boost the nation’s economy as well as the local state economies. Marijuana would also change the lives of patient’s battling chronic diseases. The substance has been show to relieve pain and strengthen ones appetite. In her article Health Findings: Studies Show Marijuana Benefits, Donya Arias explains, “Marijuana provides significant relief in patients suffering from peripheral neuropathy, an extremely painful nerve condition afflicting one-third of people living with HIV and for which conventional drugs often offer no relief.” (Arias, pp 1). Other studies have shown that in the case of cancer patients marijuana was the only drug that could increase their appetite while decreasing their pain. One Marijuana cigarette is able to increase a person’s appetite in as little as five minutes, whereas other more conventional drugs like Marinol takes up to four weeks.
There are many other health benefits that most people overlook. For example, according to Arias, marijuana has been shown to suppress tumor growth in cancer patients. She goes on to say, researchers have found that THC targets cannabinoid receptors which are related to the endocannabinoids which are naturally produced in the human body.
