History“The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding”.Theses are wise words quoted from the great Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo was one of the greatest minds ever. He studied many different fields such as architecture, sculpting, painting engineering, music and warfare. He made break throughs in almost all of these fields; no man understood accomplishment more than Leonardo da Vinci. He painted some of the most famous paintings in the world such as the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, and he sculpted one of the most famous statues in the world known as David. His inventions were so ingenious that they were not made until 400 years later. Leonardo made the first plans for the helicopter, hand glider and machine gun.Leonardo was born on April 15th 1452. He grew up in a farmhouse in the small town of Anchiano, which is three km away from Vinci. Then when Leonardo was twelve he moved to the big city of Florence with his father. Their he worked as an apprentice in the workshop of Andrea del Verrocchio. Then in June 1472 Leonardo became an official artist of Florence. In 1482 Leonardo moved to Milan to begin working for Duke Lodovico Il Moro, Leonardo worked in Milan for the next seventeen years of his life. Then he returned to Florence and spent sixteen years working their. A little while after Leonardo moved to Amboise, France to work for King Francis. Leonardo achieved great things in every one of these places form creating master art pieces to flying machines or making break through in human anatomy; Leonardo never ceased to amaze.Although Leonardo conquered all of the subjects that he studied, I think his inventions are very important and should be noticed. Leonardo’s inventions were so ahead of his time they were seen as impossible to make. Leonardo made blue prints of many of his inventions but never actually built them, he made a blue print for a helicopter which was ingenious but it was never built. The pictures have carried on to today and perfect working models can be made up to this day and age. One example is the gears and screw that Leonardo made to improve machines and daily life. One of the cleverest ideas was the variable speed drive; this gear system has three cogged wheels that rotate on the same main wheel which results in three different speeds of rotation. This system is also used in modern day automobiles. Most of these springs and gears can be found in Leonardo’s spring driven car, which has many of the same principals as the modern day spring clock. Many of the new gears and springs Leonardo invented, he even used in his weaponry. In 1482 Leonardo moved to Milan and started to work for Duke Ludovico Sforzal. During these years Leonardo achieved some of his greatest inventions such as his flying machine which has many attributes of our modern day hand glider. Da Vinci also created all sorts of weaponry that could have changed the battlefield for ever. Unfortunately many of his ideas were seen as to unrealistic...
