Dear friend, how are you? The reason for writing this letter is to give you an insight of what music really is. For the past few months, I have learnt a lot and as a result I have come to love music so much. It is my sincere hope that, after reading through this letter, you will consider taking a chance in music. Dear friend, this is a decision that you will never regret. Let me share with you what I have learnt so far.
What makes music distinct is the quality that differentiates it from other types of art. When you listen to a piece of music, you discover that it has different various characteristics. The music is sometimes slow or even fast. Different types of music, combine different instruments. The rhythmic pattern used to compose most songs is regular. Characteristics which make up a piece of music are known as elements. There are different elements in music, this are, texture, timbre, rhythm, melody and form.
Texture refers to the number and type of layers which are used in a music composition. It also looks at the relationship of these layers. It is in many different forms, for instance melodic, polyphonic, or homophonic which refers to when a particular melody has chords. Timbre describes the sound quality. It differentiates between different instruments and voices. A particular sound may be described as dark or even bright.
The pattern of Sound placement is called a rhythm. The meter shapes up the rhythm. It has various elements like the beat and the tempo. The beat is the rhythmic music stress. It occurs in a regular way. Tempo refers to the music speed. The tempo is relevant throughout the composition. Sounds in music can either be high or low. This is called pitch. The pitch is solely based on the frequency of vibration and the vibrating object size. If a vibrating object is big and the vibration is slow, then it results to a low pitch.
