Life's Experiences This Is An Essay I Wrote On My Personal Experiences In Life. The Essay Revolves Around This Quote By Aldous Huxley

1007 words - 5 pages

"Experience is not what happens to a man, it is what a man does with what happens to him."- Aldous Huxley, 1894-1963One may go through life living with his feet standing firm on the ground, but his eyes just as firmly shut. But then the question arises: How does that person learn, interpret, and experience what he has lived through? Is it possible that this blindness can keep him from experience? I have found that this kind of knowledge comes only from taking what you have learned in life and making something of it. I have been in many situations that have taught me to be self-reliant. Cancer is a word that seems so insignificant at first, but then with the familiarity of the meaning, it takes an unexpected turn. In the past year, I have had two people who were extremely close to me pass away from this seemingly trivial word. In November of 2003 my father passed away from lung cancer, and in June of 2004 one of my close friends, Tyler Teague, passed away from a rare abdominal cancer. I had never before had death touch me the way that it did in such a short amount of time. I could not even begin to describe the emotions that went through me. "The best way to describe this Mexican holiday is to say that it is a time when Mexican families remember their dead, and the continuity of life"(Salvador Pp. 75-76). To me, this holiday personifies experience related to death. I try to gain strength from every experience that surrounds me in life, and in many ways, I wish that the concept of this holiday could be carried over into the American culture.Friends have always been a very important aspect in my life; however, I have had one friendship that has ended so abruptly that I cannot help but to wonder if it was my wrongdoing. The first day that I moved to California I met the nicest girl, one week later we were the best of friends. We always brought out the best characteristics of one another. To me, our complementing personalities symbolized a truly sound relationship. We still know each...
