Deciding among colleges is a stressful time in a high school students life, where they must make a life altering choice.. Searching for a college can be extremely overwhelming due to the fact that there are thousands of colleges to choose from. At my age, making such a big decision can be alarming and intimidating. Determining where I go to college will strongly impact my first experience of living on my own. My two college choices are very important to me because they must meet my abundance of specified criteria. The three most important college criteria for me are the environment, student/social life, and daily life. These criteria are important because they each regard the quality, joy, and experience of a student's everyday life at that school. The two colleges I elected are Loyola Marymount University (LMU) and Chapman University. I chose these colleges because they both meet my criteria and should provide very similar experiences.
The environment of the college I go to is very important to me because I want to spend my four years of college in a beautiful place that has a lot of positive energy. I know that I am a happier and more productive person when the sun is shining, which is why I picked two schools in sunny California. I specifically chose LMU and Chapman because they are both in cities where there is never a shortage of things to do, and the Southern California weather is conducive to being active outside.
Loyola Marymount University is located in the city of Los Angeles where it sits on top of a
bluff in the Del Rey Hills. The view from campus is stunning as it is overlooking the Pacific Ocean and all of LA including a distant view of the Hollywood sign. This part of Los Angeles has a lot going for it since the beaches are close, the traffic is less congested than downtown L.A., and the neighborhoods are exquisite. Unlike USC which is about 18 miles to the east, LMU is not in a ghetto. There is an abundance of things to do in this area both on and off campus, and you don’t have to walk or drive through any bad neighborhoods. LMU is such a beautiful campus, that it was ranked the 7th most beautiful college campus in America according to thebestcolleges.org. The school is made up of architectural masterpieces and beautiful landscaping. The perfectly green grass and beautiful flowers are meticulously maintained by sprinklers that respond automatically throughout the grounds based upon the weather. All of this meets the criteria based on the fact that I am looking for an attractive campus in a nice area.
Chapman University is located in the city of Orange, California which is part of Orange County. The city of Orange is know as a “Major city with small town ambiance.” (Orangecounty.net) The closest Orange County beaches are about 15 miles from campus, while Disneyland is only 6 miles from campus. The city of Orange is smaller and quieter than Los Angeles, but there is still plenty to do both on and off campus. Like LMU,...
