Can It Be Defined?
There are some words that can only truly be defined by breaking them down and discussing them little by little. Some words are so complex that many question whether or not they can truly be defined. Love, is one of those words. The word is so complex that people struggle finding a true definition for it. Love has over 150 recorded definitions. However, just because a word is complex does not mean that it is unable to be defined. The best way to define love is to break it down into its four types. The four types of love are storge, philia, eros, and agape.
Storge is a natural love. It is the type of love that can be described as uncontrolled. It happens naturally. Storge is when you are able to love someone unconditional, willing to forgive their faults and forgive them of every wrong doing. This is the really emotional but also very pure, it is not based on looks, attraction, mood, or actions. Many mothers experience this love the moment they give birth to their newborn child. Storge is mostly experienced with family and extremely close friends. Storge is mostly associated with a parent/child relationship.
Philia is a chosen love. It is the type of love we have for the people we chose to love, such as friends or very distant relatives. This type of love is more likely to be temporary. Because it is the type of love that we have chosen, that means that it tends to conditional. This type of love can be destroyed by hurt feeling or wrong doings. This love is not based off forgiveness. It is mostly based off loyalty, most likely you feel this love for friends and even close friends. However, as friends betray you this love can be lost in unforgiveness. Philia is the type of loved that is closely related to like, if you stop liking the person you will stop loving them.
Eros is the Physical Type of love. It is described as being pure emotional...
