Act 2, Scene 1: Servant
I am Flanco the servant of my sire Macbeth who I always help, whenever he is in need of assistance. Tonight I am helping him with some errands. As we descend down the steps of the castle I hold the torch to light the corners of the castle as we arrive to see a friend of Macbeth, Banquo. Banquo and his son Fleance wait for a second to ask why Macbeth has not gone to sleep. Then I see Banquo telling Macbeth about how the king is in an unusual happy mood and he has given many gifts to Macbeth’s household & servants. As Banquo is saying this, he pulls out a diamond to which my surprise he said it was from King Duncan to Lady Macbeth for her hospitality. I was surprised that King Duncan would honour our hospitality and grant something as beautiful as this to Lady Macbeth. I see Macbeth beginning to say how we weren’t ready to entertain the household guest. I am not surprised Macbeth blames everything on us for not being ready but in my heart I knew we tried our best entertaining to the kings delight. Nevertheless I kept on listening about Banquo and the topic of the three witches came up about them predicting some sort of future for Macbeth. I was unaware of that Macbeth would even meet and listen to those crazy witches. Macbeth then offers one day to personally talk with Banquo about the prophecy and how it will benefit him in the end. Macbeth dismisses them, as Banquo and Fleance leave Macbeth turns around and tells me to go call my mistress to strike the bell and to finally to go to sleep. After all it was a long day from cleaning the household to the surprise visit of the king. As I leave I hide behind the corner of the wall and listen to see if anything might happen, I see Macbeth whispering to himself about a bloody dagger in his hand and how his thoughts might mislead hm. He then goes on saying how his dagger will see blood as long as King Duncan lives. Then I hear Macbeth saying “The murder is as good as done and how the bell will summon Duncan to hell or heaven”. I see Macbeth exiting and I run away to only figure out Macbeth is going to kill King Duncan while he is asleep in bed. To my horror I will be the only witness of what will happen, even if I do tell someone they will cast me as a lunatic think of me as a traitor, so I go to bed with a guilty feeling of what I’ve witnessed.
Three Different ways of how ACT 1 Scene 1 could play out
The three movies showed me a wonderful imaginative way of how Act 1, Scene 1 could be spun in different versions. The first movie Macbeth I made in 1971 depicted three old witches who begin to bury a torn-off hand in the middle of the beach and then begin to chant a message. In the beginning of Macbeth 2 made in 2006 it features three young teens who venture out to a cemetery and start vandalizing and destroying the grave stones. After they stop they meet and decide when to meet again with Macbeth. The movie Macbeth 3 made in 2010 shows another tale of three nurses who are...
