600 words - 3 pages

I am a reciepent of prestigious “Gold medal and Certificate of merit” from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for standing top in M.Sc. (biochemistry, 2002-2004). During final years of my M.Sc., I also got setected in a campus recruitment, conducted by Dr. Reddys Lab (Hyderabad, India) for a Biochemist position in pre-clinical lab, where I was mainly involved in pre-clinical evaluation of PPAR modulators. I also qualified for CSIR-UGC-NET exam with a research fellowship and then, I joined Institute of Nuclear medicine and allied Sciences (INMAS) as a UGC-research fellow, and contributed in ongoing INM-301 project funded by DRDO. At INMAS, I could identify and characterize, two mammalian tumour suppressor gene orthologues (Sf-p53 and NOS) in radioresistant insect system using bioinformatics and molecular biology approaches. Further, we observed that the gene expression and protein activity of these homologues were having differential characteristics in insect and mammalian system that partially contributes to radioresistance of Sf9 cells. This work was further considered for the award of my PhD degree from University of Delhi. My doctoral research laid the basis and provided leads for radioprotection ionizing radiation and also for the improvement of tumour radiotherapy. In addition to my doctoral research, I participated in studies exploring the mechanistic aspects of Alzheimer associated neuro-degeneration and the role of Pin-1 in p53 and topoII-alpha-interaction.
After joining Dr. Albert Fornace’s lab at Georgetown University, as a postdoctoral fellow in May 2010, I have been actively involved with NASA and Onconova funded projects dealing with cutting edge research in the area of space radiobiology and development of radiation protective agent. In NASA sponsored project, I am investigating the long term risks of radiation exposure for gastrointestinal/mammary gland carcinogensis using APCmin, APC1638 and APC/WIP1 double knockout models using different radiation qualities ranging...
