Bullying is a growing problem among kids and teenagers. Many bullies use the excuse, “He started it!” But in reality, it does not matter who actually started it. There are several people who can be held responsible for ending these cruel acts. Students, teachers, parents, and the media are some examples of people who can prevent or put an end to bullying.
Students are a main factor of being held responsible for stopping bullying. Bullying takes place at school every single day. Some teachers do not always see every side to every story so there is not much they can do about it. If a student witnesses one of their classmates being bullied, there are plenty of ways to help. When kids see bullying, they might not know what to do. They might be worried or feel like they might get bullied themselves so they just stay silent and keep their mouths closed. But, if they feel brave enough they might stand up to the bully for their friend. The best thing to do in this situation is to tell an adult, teacher, or principle who will be sure to stop the problem right there. To help, students could encourage kids to be kind and help others or just smiling at somebody could brighten their day because you never know what they have to deal with. In Lord of the Flies, Ralph stuck up for Piggy when Jack called him a fatty by stating, “He’s not fatty! His real name is Piggy,” (Golding 27). This is an example that people can stick up for their friends when they are in need of help.
Teachers, parents, or any adults are great examples of who to go to if you are being bullied, witnessed bullying, or if you are a bully who needs help. Bullying is being mean to another kid over and over again. It could include teasing, talking about hurting someone, spreading rumors, leaving kids out on purpose, or attacking someone by hurting them. These days, schools are becoming more of a fear rather than it being a safe environment. Maybe a student does not fit in, is a new student, or just appears to be weak. Those types of kid’s are the ones that are mostly bullied. If you ever witness bullying at school, you need to immediately tell a teacher. The teacher could then tell the principle or any other administrator and they will stop the situation. Students are fearful to “tattle” on the bully because they are scared that they might be their next victim and that is where the problem starts. They need to learn that it is okay to tell somebody that something is wrong, then this unacceptable problem will be solved. It is so important to let an adult know what the problem is because they might be oblivious to the whole situation. In...
