Management and LeadershipMonique ConeMGT330February 8, 2010Paul MooreManagement and LeadershipManagement is someone who controls a certain number of people. Manager has subordinates and leaders do not. Managers are paid to get things done for the company. For instance, ATT have several managers because it is a big company. The management at ATT has to make sure the company reaches their goals. The management usually has a team of 10 to 15 people. The call center director gives the managers a list of jobs to have each team to complete and it has to be done by the end of the month. A leader does not have subordinates. A leader will take control on his own without anyone asking them.A leader will make sure the job is done. Manager can be leaders too, but a genuine leader has followers and following is a voluntary activity. Possessing luck can help a company succeed in a short-term, but ATT is looking for long-term success. So a good manager and leader are essential. At ATT it is best that they all work together as a team, rather than against each other. ATT is too completive and challenging for us to work against each other. Theirs so many stereotypes about leadership, many people think to be a leader it has to "come from the top of the company, it comes from one's immediate boss, and that it means being decisive and issuing commands" (Bateman, Snell, 2009, p.12).Management can be a leader too. But when they have a manager who is not a leader, the two can clash because they have difference type of leadership styles. In order to be a manager at ATT, they must have technical skills and decision-making skills to run an effective team and make the company goals (Bateman, Snell, 2009). The role the management has to do is making sure the employees are doing what they suppose to do to reach the company goals. Management at ATT also has to create and pursue new growth opportunities for the company.Management role at ATT is also to develop individuals and support any activities that the employees are doing. The managers establish high-performance standards. If an ATT employees does not make a high score on what the manager grade employees on at the end of the month. The employees can be written up or terminated. Manager always continues improvement within the unit. Management also link dispersed knowledge and skills throughout the company (Bateman, Snell, 2009). Leadership role is to motivate the employees. ATT place certain people in a leadership role so they can help achieve the company goals, not their own personal goal.A leader is basically serving the company. A leader has to look over there own emotion and desires. The leader has to make the best decision for the company, even if it conflict with what...
