As a future teacher I believe that guidance is one of the most important things I will have to teacher. Guidance is built into the curriculum and as a teacher I will constantly be teaching it to children. With guidance my goal is not just simply to stop inappropriate behavior but to encourage appropriate behavior and the development of social competence. I believe that the focus of a teacher should not be telling children what not to do but to teach them what to do. Children are going to make several mistakes along the way but as a teacher it will be my job to stay committed to helping children through the process. An important part of guidance is to celebrate a child’s successes along with improving what they do wrong. The strategies that we use to help children as they learn to control their behavior are a crucial part of guidance. In early childhood education a central part of the curriculum is social competence and guidance. Teaching a child to solve their own problems is a huge step in their development. Once a child knows right from wrong they will be able to make the right decisions for themselves. My goal as a teacher is to make sure every one of my students receives the guidance they need.

These strategies provide a foundation to build positive relationships between a teacher and child and a positive class room environment will help that. Indirect guidance strategies are used to create a positive classroom environment. As a teacher some of these techniques I plan to use include consistent routines, class rules, room arrangement, and activities to improve development. Some direct guidance techniques I plan to use that will add to the positive classroom environment include, natural consequence, problem solving, redirection, and verbal guidance. I also plan to focus on setting realistic expectations, recognizing and encouraging appropriate behavior, and concentrating on the individual child. I believe all of these guidance strategies will lead to a more positive classroom.
The physical environment of a classroom is very important because there are many things that can be distracting or lead children to misbehave. Having too much free space in a room can lead to children running around and acting inappropriately. In my classroom I plan on having different centers where a few children will be able to work on an activity. I want the areas to be meaningful but also have a fun activity to engage the children. These areas should also have a variety so that the children have their pick of what to do. I think that these centers should be labeled with the number of children that are supposed to be there and the instructions on how to do the activity. I also think that there should be enough materials for the activities so that the children do not have...
