Organizing can be described as assembling and coordinating the human, financial, physical and other resources to achieve goals (Bateman & Snell, 2007).In addition upper management is working to be efficient. There are many resources available that companies can utilize according to their needs. I will explain how the organization that I work for has organized some of its resources available in order to achieve its goals. After the September 11, 2001 attacks the government looked at the way that resources were being utilized in the past and decided that it was time for a change. From this change of resources, mostly human, came the creation of the Department of Homeland Security in 2003 and the elimination of the Customs Service and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.Human ResourcesThe government noticed the potential of most of its employees and decided to merge two departments into one. The closing of the two Services aforementioned was completed in a merge of agencies. Upper management decided that it was time for diversification. They decided that it was better if the employee was trained in different areas. Massive training sections began for all employees to have an understanding of what other areas did in the past. This will allow for someone that was an expert detecting body language and contraband to have a basic knowledge in document fraud and vice versa. This cross training has paid off and resulted in more arrests and seizures since 2003 helping the organization reach their goals.KnowledgeThis is the basis in the organization that I work for. Only years of experience can give you enough knowledge to be really successful. This is an area were I don't think that the knowledge resource potential has been optimized.
