The always changing global business environment presents countless different challenges to those who are in charge. Business managers must utilize new organizational techniques and discover in what way to make the most efficient decisions regarding the market domestically and also at the global level. Globalization has become more common place in the business community as the barriers of communication and travel have been demolished. Consequently maintaining a consistent corporate culture through expansion has many obstacles as there are different regulations and cultural differences as a firm crosses boarders. Corporate culture is the application of a company’s mission statement, and their ability to transplant that culture from one country to another is crucial to the success of an international company. Companies realize the challenge mounted by expansion and virtually every company will experience setbacks when entering foreign countries. For example, guidelines for business in the United States may not apply in China, as they have different ways of doing things or that they live differently from Americans. These are some of cultural, political, and socio-economic forces are what every manager will experience and must consider in order to survive in the global market.
The process of globalization has become exceedingly competitive and exaggerates the importance of open communications channels worldwide. The international environment has created enormous challenges for managers. International management is far different from management in the domestic market. Greater amounts of flexibility in the development of strategies significantly change when planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the resources of an organization in accordance of it mission across international borders. The managerial approach that works in one country does not necessarily work in the same fashion or not at all in another one, this being explained by environmental dissimilarities in culture, systems, and techniques that are different from their own. Initially, firms must determine which structural approach to become a multinational corporation it would like to undertake. A multidomestic corporation decentralizes management and other decisions to the country to which it is operating in. Local Employees are hired to manage the business and marketing strategies are tailored to that country’s unique characteristics. In contrast to a multidomestic corporation, a global corporation centralizes its management and other decisions within its home country. A main focus to this approach of management focuses on efficiency. Eliminating artificial geographical barriers to increase efficiency and effeteness is what transnational/borderless organizations seek to do (Nickels, McHugh & McHugh, 2012).
