There is currently a great debate on rather we should or should not legalize Marijuana. There are a number of people who are for legalizing the drug; mainly for medical uses. There is no justification to smoking Marijuana for medicine; many doctors and scientist would actually not advise it. Marijuana is found to be the third most recreational drug in the world, behind alcohol and tobacco. According to government surveys more than 14 million people use this drug on a daily basis. The drug is seen to be harmless but can be just as dangerous as alcohol or tobacco. Marijuana, also known as "Mary Jane" should not be legalized because it can lead to serious health issues, it can impair learning and memory abilities, it can become addicting, and can sometimes lead to the use of many other harmful drugs.
Marijuana is known to cause several serious health issues such as lung cancer, chronic bronchitis, and blood vessel blockage. Some studies have shown that the risk of lung cancer doubles in males who smoke marijuana regularly. Studies have also found that long-term marijuana use will increase the chances of lung cancer in people 55 years of age and younger. Smoking marijuana causes cell damage and has been associated with pre-cancerous cells in lung tissue. Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in both females and males. Chronic Bronchitis is another health issue cause by the abuse of marijuana. Chronic bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchial tubes, which means that less air will be able to travel to and from the lungs. If someone who suffers from chronic bronchitis doesn't seek medical help as soon as possible the lungs can become permanently damaged. Smoking marijuana can also cause blood vessel blockage which can lead to heart attack, stroke, and sometimes death. Other than the three main health issues I have listed marijuana can also cause other serious problems and should be avoided.
