Martin Luther King Jr.
“God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old negro spiritual,’Free at last, free at last, Great God a-mighty , we are free at last’”-Martin Luther King Jr. , this quote means that one day Dr.King wants people to be equal. Martin Luther King Jr. is a hero because he lead the civil rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr. wants people to be treated equally, no matter religion, race, or color and thats why he said the quote from above. Dr.King is a hero because he lead the the civil rights movement and gave the most amazing speech ever (in my opinion) the “I had a dream” speech.
A Chronological Background of his Life
Dr.King was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1929. Dr.King is the son of Michael King Sr.and Alberta Williams King. Dr.King is the middle child, Dr.King had an older sister, Willie Christine King and a younger brother, Alfred Daniel Williams King. At age 5 Dr.King attended a public school. In May, 1936 he was baptized, but the event made little impression on him. In May, 1941, Dr.King was 12 years old when his grandmother Jennie, died of a heart attack. Dr.King (young) jumped from a second story window at the family home, attempting suicide. Dr. King took over the small struggling Ebenezer Baptist church with around 13 members and made it into a forceful congregation. Martin Luther King Jr. was never his birth name, his birth name was Michael King Jr.
Dr. King married Coretta Scott King in 1953 and had four kids, two boys and two girls named Bernice King, Dexter Scott King, Martin Luther King lll, and Yolanda King. Yolanda King was the first to be born and first daughter or King. Yolanda King was the first actress, she died in 2007 of a sudden heart attack at age 51. The last (fourth) child of King is Bernice King which is also the second daughter who was only five years old when she attend her father's funeral.
When Dr. King was 10 years old he was an active member of his church and sang with his church's choir. Five years later Dr. King was accepted to Morehouse University after skipping two grades (9th and 11th grade). Dr. King was very popular in college (especially with the girls).
Problems and Struggles Encountered
Raising four kids for Dr. King was a struggle because he was jailed over twenty times, got stabbed in the chest, his house was bombed, and suffered relentless attacks on himself and his family. I feel that his two youngest kids didn't understand why their family was getting attack or why their father was going to jail so much, they knew he wasn’t a bad man. I’m not sure if Dr.King talk with them or not or how the really felt. At least now they know that their father was making a difference. In his speech you can tell...
