Coursework: Media - Analysis of the poster `Kidulthood': How does this poster propose information on the film - Genre and Narrative?
This poster proposes information on the film `Kidulthood' through different features structured and portrayed within it. The general idea of the poster seems to show an element of violence and seems to suggest a high amount of action to be seen in the film - as I will explain all the features within the poster and how it proposes information on the film.
Firstly, I begin with the background - which consists mainly of the sky. It is quite dull (black and dark grey) on the left and right-hand sides of the poster. In addition to this, the characters are arranged according to the contrast of the sky - suggesting they are the main `culprits' in the film, or the fact that they are corrupted with lust and anger in comparison with the shrouded environment around them. However, in the middle of the poster, two people are arranged together with the sky very bright (light grey and white) behind them - suggesting they're the most innocent but yet it's a possibility of them being corrupted. Also, we can carefully observe that teenagers are sitting at the top of a building - telling us they have a lot of reputation and seem to be feared by others.
The characters also portray genre and narrative as well. We can see the teenagers are arranged mainly into couples - concluding the idea that it's possible for romance to be portrayed as one of the prime themes in the film. In addition to this, we can observe that a man on the right-hand side is sitting down; he is structured at the lower parts of the poster. This could suggest that he is of lower status, and less superior in contrast with the other characters in the poster. This tells us that it's possible for him to not have a strong impact on the main characters in the film. Also, the figure to the left has a baseball bat, symbolizing the theme of violence in the film and a suggestion that he is the most corrupted and devious through the use of this prop. The fact that he wears black clothing, also tells us he will be devious and someone to be suspicious and wary of in the film - main highlight out of the figures in the poster.
The next feature I will talk about will be the shot of the poster. It seems to be a middle shot because the background and characters are clearly seen. This tells us that the designer of the poster wants us to observe the...
