Our worldviews are constructed by the help of Metaphysics, giving us an analytical view of reality and our place in it. But what is Metaphysics? Simply put, it is the study of the nature of reality. It encompasses everything that exists, whether the world is real or just a mere illusion. Without an explanation or interpretation of the world, we would be lost. The degree to which our metaphysical worldview is accurate corresponds with how we are able to understand the world. Two of the main contributors to the developmental worldviews of Metaphysics have been Naturalism or Supernaturalism.

Let’s look at the chicken and egg controversy. Evolutionists state that a new species may derive from an already existing one, however they won’t have the same genetic code and that leads to different physical characteristics. With that, sub-populations exist with two different groups having their own combination of traits. The ancestor of the domestic chicken would have come from wild fowl. And then the genetic code among the population of chickens will be completely different from the wild fowl, so the two won’t be able to produce fertile offspring. Therefore, the chicken become new species. First eggs were laid by a mother who was somewhat similar to the chicken ancestor, the wild fowl. Chicks inside the eggs are chickens, but their parents weren’t chickens themselves. Consequently, the egg came first for a naturalist worldview.
The Big Bang Theory is another argument for the Naturalist view. “According to the naturalistic account, the universe began with a Big Bang, often characterized as the explosion or expansion of an infinitely dense particle…” (Cosmological argument, Lecture 16). We have observed that the universe is forever growing as time moves forward. Naturalists believe that the particle was just a product of another universe that had been demolished. There was another universe before ours, which was destroyed and that lead to the “infinitely dense particle” starting the birth of the Big Bang. So, it’s just a cycle of different universes being created and destroyed. Each universe would start with the Big Bang and slowly degenerate into that dense particle aforementioned.
On the opposing side of the Naturalist, lies the Supernaturalist Worldview. In the issue of the universes’ origins, the book of genesis shows us that the physical world was made in six days and six nights; God created the species in the two days to multiply to occupy Earth. An all-powerful god had the ability to create species and procreate in time. The Cosmological Argument is introduced to support the idea from the Book of Genesis. For this argument, we are presented with two premises following a conclusion. Premise 1 states that every event in the physical world has a cause; Premise 2 says that the cause of the first event in the physical world could not itself be physical and in conclusion, the cause of the first event in the physical world must be supernatural. But how do we know this is true? The first premise states that every event in the physical world has a cause. The second premise deals with the fact that since the first event happened by itself, then there can’t be an earlier physical event. Thus, there is a supernatural being (God) that exists who caused the creation of the universe.
With diversity in life forms, we look at the Supernatural being to account for their creation. This idea leads to the Design argument, which comes in two versions: Traditional and Fine-tuning. Traditional argument states that based on nature, our existence and the...
