Running Head-MOST INFLUENTIAL PIONEERS IN BUSINESSQuality and what it stands forJaime EnriquezMGT 449June 28, 2010Michael NwokeloQuality and what it stands forAs artists or musicians pride themselves over the quality of their work so do organizations with their quality of service and products. No one has to tell the owner or manager how important quality is toward the future of the organization; manager's notice these results every time they have a satisfied customer, or company shares increase. This paper will define quality and its elements, discuss how W. Edwards Deming use of total quality made him successful, and why the elements of quality are useful in today's environment. In addition, I will explain how total quality management applies to my organization and what I foresee about the future of quality. What is Quality? The word quality can have many meanings for different people, "quality is in the eye of the beholder" (Goetsch & Davis, 2010). For example, a quality car may simply have no defects but to a mechanic a quality car may be one with inexpensive parts for repair, information that others may not know. In other words, the term quality can be, "meeting customer expectations, having no defects, the product has something that other similar products do not that adds value, product is the best combination of price and features (Vanderbilt.edu, 1990).What makes quality so meaningful to business owners or managers, what elements or characteristics can we derive from quality. There are some common elements that play a part in pursuing quality. Cutting corners can be very tempting for anyone taking shortcuts on a project in ways customers may not even take notice. Taking the time to do the job right the first time is the key in for any organization. Second, if employees take the time to do quality work, then there is no need to do a lot of rework. Craftsmanship is another element that can make the difference between doing a good job and doing a great job. Taking the time to do carefully a project and pay attention to minute details. Finally, lasting value can be providing a client a product or service were it would be relevant to use in the present or future.W. Edwards Deming use of total qualityDr. W.
