Monsanto: Contrary To Popular Belief Essay

Today in America there is an unprecedented amount of ignorance in the form of misconceptions and stereotypes. Whether it’s viewing men as strong and women as weak or even certain concepts the derive from this countries long past of racism. It’s incredible how long certain ideas still linger from the past and the new ideas that have been birthed today. The only thing a person has to do to look past any type of misconception is to observe the group being targeted and see for themselves to see is this group behaves how they are portrayed. One example is the company Monsanto, many Americans believe that this company is not only for this countries benefit but also that it's necessary. Further investigation reveals that, for these statements, the opposite is true. There are a near infinite amount of examples that can be given and the simple cure to them is a mere investigation of where they originated from and why they have came to be. Unfortunately many come from observations of only a small part of the whole group. People see a few others that share a commonality and observe their actions, from there people assume that what they observed must be the same for others with that commonality. This is a perfect example of stereotyping but sadly this seemingly perpetual cycle and recycling of stereotypes is only so because of how people are sometimes raised.

Since many stereotypes can be viewed as racist, this can explain why there are numerous and have no bounds of what group(s) can be targeted. This is why many stereotypes and other misconceptions have perpetuated through several generations. Not only from a racist viewpoint but also from a sexest perspective. This, in turn, further adds up the different “combinations” of stereotypes. Throughout history women have been viewed as lower than men in many, if not most, cultures. “Often, the Labeling of ‘women's Language’ as ‘powerlessness’...” . Unfortunately both misconceptions and stereotypes are mainly caused by ignorance. Misconception, however, can be forced on outsiders looking in more easily than stereotypes. The reason being, most misconceptions have an anonymous beginning and is easily manipulated because of its vague beginnings. The most obvious proof is advertisements that state the exact opposite of what a product/company actually does. Its relatively unknown where they can come up with such lies but because of the ignorance of United States citizens, it is not questioned nor is it proven, just accepted. One of the most prevalent abusers to this “American Tradition” is a company by the name of Monsanto. This corporation ,within its pledge, claims to “Integrity and Transparency”( amongst other “tenants” but the few who have questioned this company’s “Integrity and Transparency” are met with a political giant that does not feel the need to acknowledge its own tenants. This can very well further many misconceptions about the company to those who don’t see past the advertisements.
