When it comes to a person's extrinsic and intrinsic motivations in areas such as health and wellness, we are also very unique. Whether a person's ambition is eating healthy, trying to stop drinking, smoking, using drugs or engaging in some form of exercise, one will need motivation and help from the brain to complete the task at hand. Throughout this paper, I will thoroughly discuss the brain's functions and structures that are connected with the motivation to engage a person to implement.The weight of the human being's brain is about "3 pounds (1.4 kilograms) and the brain makes up 2% of a person's body mass" (Bangalore, 2007, p. 1). There are numerous amounts of organs in the human body; however, none compare to the brain. The brain is the powerhouse that controls every aspect of the human body. One may ask the question, why is the brain the powerhouse? It is the powerhouse because it controls everything from the transferring and sharing of information, neural networking stimuli, activation of short and long term memory and organ stimulation. The brains development begins during the prenatal period, in which the brain is highly developed at birth. At birth, the brains development can progress from about 25% of the weight of an adult brain to 90% at age five (Schickedanz et al, 1993, p. 160). The functioning of the brain is very important to the motivation and control in humans when performing in proactive engagements of the wellness of the body.Trying to get motivated to exercise is very difficult for many people. Teaching Karate for many years has allowed me to meet many different people who want to become physically active; however, they lack the mental motivation to get involved. What one does not realize is that exercising is a fundamental part of life. Not just my life, but everyone's life. Not only will exercising allow a person to live a healthier and longer life but it will also aid in fighting off diseases (August, 1988). Whether one is doing cardio or aerobic exercises, they both will improve one's body image. Not just that, but exercise will also improve internal health factors like the brain functions and structures.It has been recommended by researchers that participating in exercise programs can improve the performance levels in different regions in the brain. Hence, a more energetic body can help improve decision making process and focusing (McKhann and Albert, 2002, p.25). Research was done and reported by the U.S. News and it showed that rodents created newer brain cells within the hippocampus. The hippocampus is responsible for memory and learning (August, 1988). In addition, if there are healthier brain cells in the hippocampus, the productivity of learning and memory will definitely be enhanced. In return...
