The fast population growth and large migration of people
to urban centers that are currently present in the country,
contribute to environmental pollution and require an expansion
of electrical infrastructure. This, coupled with the rise in oil
prices [1], depletion of fossil fuels and the need to reduce
emissions that pollute the environment, has generated the need
of new sources of cleaner energy, economically viable and
that do not alter the reliability of the electric system. This
has given way to the concept of smart grids, promoting the
implementation of distributed generation (DG) and microgrids
(G) [2].
Distributed generation has emerged as one of the most
important alternatives to reduce CO2 emissions since these
generation schemes favors the usage of renewable resources
such as wind, solar photovoltaic, biomass, among others.
Besides, the electrical system failures, that generate large
amount of monetary losses because of the Non Supplied
Energy (ENS) costs to several economic sectors [3], could
be minimized with the use of DG. In general terms, DG can
be defined as "any generation technology that provides smallscale
electrical energy in a place closer to the consumer than
centralized generation, and that can be connected directly to
the consumer side or distribution network" [4]. This leads to a
diversified energy production that is no longer fully centralized
and that consists of small generators, which are close to the
end users.
This generation scheme has several benefits: reduction of
the costs associated to the energy transportation, an increment
of the electric system reliability, as well as the improvement
of the reactive support system due to the decrease of the
electrical distance between the source and the load, among
others. However, DG may experience some barriers that do
not ease their integration to the system. For instance, the
initial investment can be considerable because of the high
costs associated to the new generation technologies, and
decentralization may stimulate the creation of isolated zones
that interacts with the network only in the case that they have
a surplus of energy or a lack of it. This isolated distribution
systems are commonly known as microgrids, and may present
problems such as surges, overloads, instability or increased
power losses.
On the other hand, microgrids consider the operation of
electric vehicles (EVs); they are an additional load to the
system, so they can bring lack of energy, network overload,
low voltages profile, an increment in power losses, requirement
in infrastructure investment, among others.
Under this perspective, it is necessary a methodology to
assess the impacts of the microgrid elements integration into
a distribution system, i.e., DG and EVs. This paper proposes
