My Favorite Vacation Essay

My favorite type of vacation is a cruise. Last winter I went on my first cruise and I absolutely loved it. When you first arrive at the departing port, it seems a little overwhelming; you can feel the excitement in the air. The first person you see is a porter who will take your suitcases and tag them right on the curb as you get out of your cab, shuttle or car.
Once you are inside the building you get in line to start the check in process. There are people there from all over the world, some can speak English others cannot. You hear people speaking in all different languages which I always enjoy and try to figure out if they are happy or angry by their body language since I don’t understand them. You also see people of all ages, most of the people on this partial cruise were between the ages of 30 -70 which was nice since it was an older crowd.
As a first time cruiser, I was in awe at the size of the ship; it had a big glass elevator with a grand staircase in the middle of the ship, along with a stage where a band was playing. The walls were decorated with beautiful art work. I felt like a child who was anxiously waiting for Santa and needing to take in everything right away. Next I was greeted by a crew member who offered me a welcome aboard cocktail. The cocktails are generally fruity and smell like sweet fruit and rum but none the less delicious. I was not allowed into my room until 1pm it was approximately 11 am therefore, I headed to the pool deck. The pool deck makes you feel like you are truly on vacation. Lounge chairs are neatly lined around the pool about three rows deep. Some are in the shade others are in the sun. They have island music playing such as Bob Marley and Jimmy Buffett. The sun was warm and felt good on my body. After sitting in the sun for a few minutes I headed to the lunch buffet. Walking into the buffet area, I could immediately smell the food, they had every food imaginable. For lunch I decided on roast beef and mashed potatoes. The meat was cooked tender and full of flavor you could taste some of the spices such as pepper. The potatoes...
