The general sipped his wine and left the room. Ivan came out with the materials for Rainsford like the general promised. Ivan handed Rainsford the knife and turned slightly to the sound of a dog bark from outside. At this moment, Rainsford stabbed the giant in the rib cage. The giant fell to the ground with a loud thud. Rainsford grabbed the giant’s gun from his hip and ran quickly out the door.
When General Zaroff came heard the loud thud, he rushed toward it. When he arrived, he saw Ivan lying there covered in blood. At this moment he cried and screamed out, “You will pay for this Rainsford!”
Rainsford finally stopped running when he reached a tall tree that he could hide in. He climbed up as far as he could and hid out there for the night. He saw the general pass by many times. Each time, Rainsford held his breath hoping he wouldn’t get caught.
Before General Zaroff headed back to his house, he exclaimed, “I will find ...view middle of the document...
When they were done with this task, they would all work together to kill the dogs with the general’s weapons. Everyone would then be free.
Before the general fell asleep he made a plan himself. He would go out first thing in the morning and try to catch Rainsford off guard. He would gather up his army of dogs and search every square inch of the rainforest. One he found Rainsford, he would hit shoot him in the feet so he wasn’t able to run. Then he would drag him back to his house and hang him upside down from the ceiling. He would torture and starve him for several days. When he eventually came to his death, he would mount his whole body on the wall living room. This way he would be able to look at it every day. It would be his most prized possession.
When Rainsford got to the cellar, he couldn’t believe what he saw. A room jam packed with people of all kinds. They looked miserable. None of them wanted to begin the game. Every one of them sat there dreadful. They knew they had no chance. Each of them expected to die.
They were shocked at the sight of Rainsford. He explained that he was on their side. When he stated what the plan was, they were all up for it. Rainsford used a large rock to break the lock on the doors holding them in. He then handed each of them a wooden stake. They all had a feeling of hope rush through them.
They all charged towards the house and ran straight to the general’s bedroom. The prisoners stood surrounding his bed. The general sensed them and woke suddenly in fear. “No! Please don’t hurt me! I’ll give you…” It was at this moment that they attacked him. Full of anger, they took turns driving their stakes into his body. They wanted to give him exactly what he deserved.
When the deed was done, they gathered up the weapons to kill the dogs. As they stepped outside, they were met by the pack. The prisoners fired their guns rapidly. They continued shooting until each and every dog was dead.
They all knew they were safe to escape after this. However, none of them, not even Rainsford, wanted to leave. They talked together before concluding they would stay. This was their island now. They had no more fears or worries. They would make each other happy. And this they did.
