My Teaching Philosophy
Teaching is a very honorable profession which reflects the positive characteristics of those who educate. It is a difficult job that requires knowledge, dedication, integrity and patience. I want to become a teacher (particularly elementary school) because I want to make a difference in society and I love to work with children. I believe that by using things such as atmosphere and innovative teaching methods, an instructor can be informative and still have fun. This is how I see myself as a primary school teacher.
Since I am planning to teach kindergarten, I can imagine a fun and colorful room for my students. I would allow my students to sit at one big table instead of individual desks. This would help the children to build up their communication and social skills and, therefore, they would make friends more quickly. Around the room, I would have posters with the alphabet and simple math skills on them. This would assist them with learning how to use their letters and numbers more easily. Another good teaching technique would be to have a big calendar at the front of the room, which would have the month and the days of the week on it. Each morning, I would have a different helper come up and stick the date on the calendar so they could learn the significance of a calendar. At the bottom of the board, I would have a dial that would have pictures representing the type of weather outside. For example, the helper would put the pointer on a picture of a rain coat and goulashes if it were raining outside. This would teach the kids about weather. Also, I would have posters with cartoon characters on them and put them all around the walls. I want my room to be very entertaining and visual so that my students’ interest will be perked and they will want to enter my classroom. In the middle of one of the side walls, I want to have a bulletin board which will read at the top “Student of the Week”. Every week a child will be chosen as student of the week and he or she will get a special certificate and a gift bag filled with different treats. This will be something the kids can look forward to and anticipate. My class will always do special projects for major holidays like Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day. We will do things like make ornaments, magnets and cards for parents and special friends. Also, in order to celebrate special occasions, I will have parties in which parents, guardians and grandparents are allowed to come to. I want my classroom’s atmosphere to be instructional, but fun at the same time.
