“A Rose for Emily” vs. “The Yellow Wallpaper”
Everyone suffers from some type of depression throughout their life but each person handles the situation differently. Some might have control over and the can get over come their depression whereas others does not have any control and has no choice but to follow through until they finally fight to get their freedom. "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner is the story about a young woman who is overwhelmingly influenced by her father, and she begins to fall apart mentally after his death. Emily did not have the confidence nor the self-esteem to believe that she could succeed at life alone. In “The Yellow Wallpaper”, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is the story that illustrates a woman that is locked up in a yellow wallpaper room that leads her to become mentally sick.
In “A Rose for Emily” the narrator is in need of love and insecurity. After loosing her father and losing the man that she was supposed to get married too she feels abandoned. Her father completely isolates her when she was younger, and after his death she was still upset and couldn’t get over it. After a while Emily finds love when she meets Homer. At one point in her life Emily is happy but as soon as her life moves forward in a positive direction, her life starts to fall apart again. She finds out that Homer is not really marrying her and feels hatred towards him because he humiliated her around everyone else in town. Shortly, Homer is back and Emily wants revenge.
