What are the essential key features of a Neo- Gramscian theory of IR?
Neo Gramsican is a critical approach to the study of International Relations and the global political economy. It explores many elements that are essential for the maintenance of the international relations. It explores the interface of ideas, institutional and material capabilities as they form the specify shape of the state formation. Neo Gramsican analyzes how the grouping of social forces defines the sustainability of the world orders. The situation of hegemony by neo- Gramscian is based upon the coherent conjunction amid a pattern of material power, the customary combined image of world order (that consists of certain norms) and a set of institutions that directs the order with a positive impression of universality. Thus, in this, dominancy by power can be necessary but it is not a specific requirement for the hegemony. In a historical structure of hegemony, it constitutes about three spheres of activity; social relations of production, forms of state and world orders. A broad sense of production, the first activity, cover up the production and reproduction of the social relations, knowledge, institutions and morals that are fundamentals to the making of physical goods; this implies that the social forces are not compact into material aspects. The non-class issues-peace, feminism and ecology are also given firm basis in social realities and not to be set away. These bases are shaped through the production process (Bieler & Morton, 2003).
The second sphere of activity that is the forms of state rests on the principal configurations of social forces or the social relations of production. The state is not taken as a pre-constituted institutional grouping, but is given to the historical construction of diverse forms and various social contexts of the political struggle. An historical bloc is established that refers to the method in which leading societal forces institutes a relationship over the opposing social forces within a specific national context. It is simply as a political alliance amid the social forces characterized by fractions of classes. It specifies the incorporation of different class interests that are proliferated all through the society conveying the intellectual and mral unity aims with the political and economic ones (Globalista, 2012).
The third and the last sphere of activity in hegemony is the world orders; they do not only represent conflict and stability phases but also allows the scope for viewing about the alternative world order forms emergence. The historical bloc construction cannot exist without a hegemonic social class; it is a natural trend. However, hegemony if once combines and strengthens domestically it may spread out further than a specific social order to move externally on a world scale during the international expansion of a specific mode of productions of social relations. This further strengthens by supporting the mechanisms of international organization. The hegemonic world order i.e. the merge of moral leadership and intellectual world order is only established with the interactions amid the social forces and dominant state or the sub-ordinate states. It is also said to be a production of the universal dominant civilization.
Lastly, within the three chief subjects it is quarreled that three additional elements equally merge to form up an historical structure; these additional elements are ideas, material capabilities and the...
